Women Empowerment

Women in India have to endure many ordeals in their day-to-day lives. For centuries women of all generations have had to struggle to be treated as equals. At present, thousands of women in India are marginalized and poorly treated within society. As a result, there is a serious lack of the skills and confidence which are essential to live a fulfilled and active life. Currently, a staggering 245 million women across India are unable to read or write, this severely limits their position and opportunities available to them within society.

That is why Kalakunj foundation  for women empowerment , stepped in to create an impact by changing the lives of women from these backgrounds, by creating the set goals and training sessions to make them self sustainable in life.

The vision of the organization is to lay the foundation for a peaceful, healthy, gender sensitive and prosperous society, where women and the youth will have their rights to a life of dignity safeguarded. The mission of the organization is to empower women in all the basic fields of life so that they can improve their living conditions.

The objectives of the Women Welfare Organization are to take concrete steps for basic improvement of health and sanitary provisions, to provide free medical aid to senior citizens, to take necessary measures for environmental preservation, to protect women’s and children’s rights and the development of the community, to raise awareness amongst the young students (especially girls), to provide networking facilities to social development institutions, and to provide micro-credit to rural women so that they are financially empowered. The sectors that we aim to deal with are: basic health, family planning, basic education, environment, gender development, training and research, group formation, availability of small loans etc. It attempts to form a widespread coordination and network with women-centric organizations, research institutions, NGOs that fight for women’s rights, minority groups, legal forums etc.

The chief strategies of the organization include establishing health units, organizing seminars, rallies, group discussions, workshops etc., providing health education, spreading awareness about HIV, encouraging tree plantation at a large scale, providing financial knowledge and saving schemes, amongst others.

Kalakunj foundation started its work with 25  villege of Bhopal’s Bairsiya and Kolar region . We conducted training for sustainable livelihood opportunities and also trying to create and promote products made by SHG group from those villages to market . Coronavirus outbreak limits the scope of ground activities of our organization for the whole year but with all  safety precautions our foundation started  it’s ground activities from October 2020. As Covid19 destroyed employment opportunities in rural areas so our foremost priority was to create possible opportunity to them and make them self dependent . To help women in rural areas, we ran a campaign named “Roshan Diwali”. Through this we created a Facebook ad and promoted their clay products online in various urban areas of Bhopal district. We also conducted a training workshop for women’s SHG group on health and digital literacy. We organise a 1 day workshop for 60 women and train them how to make paper through which they can sell their products. We organise rallies and group discussion on gender issues.
